My Homage to The AS (3/18/09)

The end of the basketball season always sets off a subconscious bell in my head. (Spring Break!!!)

(Just kidding.)

It reminds me there's only a couple months left on the school calendar and if I wanna do some very special people right... I better get on it. So cue up the fanfare, please!

I would like to publicly honor the The Athletic Secretary. I list her in my directory and on my prep sheets as The AS -- just a few clicks down the alphabet from the AD... but only in abbreviation not in function. At least, not in my book. When I'm assigned to a football, volleyball or hoops game, The AS is the first person I contact for rosters. Many times, they help me with abbreviations. When necessary, they inform me of changes in personnel. More often than not, they distribute the public address script I send them to the PA announcer and the entire athletic department. Honestly, I can't really think of a time an AS hasn't helped me out. After school, during holiday break, fax, e-mail, file extension conversion... however and whenever I'm buggin' 'em, I get hooked up.

So if you or your kid has ever played on CET, you should join me in honoring The AS. It's very possible she's the reason why you knew we were coming, we pronounced your name correctly, knew about the move-up from JV, and didn't bug the coach too long during warm-ups.
